Found this great interactive website that demonstrates the Bernouli’s principle. This comes in handy when we are talking about pump packing and flush pressure going into a smaller area. Check this out! http://home.earthlink.net/~mmc1919/venturi.html
I love the Dirty Jobs TV Show. Recently an episode was at a hydro power plant and it looks like they are replacing a ring of packing on the wicket gates - kind of hard to tell.
Here are the Utube versions.
another great youtube video - this one starts with our hero’s trying to pack a shaft seal on a Boat… My favorite part has to be when they start banging on the packing with a hammer.. Classic..
Found this video today and it was the first time I ever saw it. First of all, I think they are stretching the truth when they say it is the first packing designed to seal a stuffing box ~ did they think packing before then was just rope?? From what I can tell, Gore itself was created in 1958 ~ I know there was “packing designed for stuffing boxes” before that.
This photo was taken by me back in 2000 on one of my 5 trips to China. I took this picture at a steel mill in Beijing to illustrate how badly slurry pumps can leak. When I took the picture there was black soot being thrown all around the room from the pump ~ I am still amazed at how clear the photo came out.
