This week I hit the Tacoma lottery! Here is the story..
Last Sunday I went to bring my 1999 Toyota Tacoma with 184,000 miles on it to the shop. The news was not good. I needed the following:
- new rear springs
- new fan belt
- new battery
- new brakes
It was going to cost way above $2000. The guy came out to talk to me and kind of sounded like a vet telling you your dog was about to die. I decided I needed to go get a new car instead of dump money into a car past its prime.
I went to Acton Toyota and as I pulled in the guy said I had hit the "Tacoma lottery". He explained that Toyota of America was buying back Tacoma's that were made between 1995-2000 for 1.5 times excellent condition blue book value what ever the condition of the truck. First I thought the guy was crazy but it is true! On Friday I signed my truck over to Toyota for $12,510... The truck I would of been lucky to get $500 dollars from a high schooler on a good day. As you can see from these photo's I did not keep the car in great condition since I bought it new 9 years ago (I started a few years ago putting gum on the roof).
A few facts, the truck needs to fail a frame corrosion test and almost all cars in the northeast will fail because of the harsh winters.

I know I dropped off the face of the earth in regards to this blog. I was doing so well then nothing.
Well I am getting that feeling that I will keep it up again.

For starters here is the classic Talking heads video from the best band movie of all time - stop making sense. I saw this movie at least 10 times in Harvard square when I was in school.

Google asked actual users of Gmail to contribute to a video of what it looks like as a Gmail email is sent around the world. Below is the final video results. Very cool..

Merlin Mann is my hero. I have been reading his blog 43 folders for years and have really gotten a lot of good info on the GTD (getting things done) process and the dreaded email fire hose problem. Well in this video he speaks at Google headquarters about his side project called Inbox zero. It is quite lengthy (about 1 hour) but it is well worth learning how other people deal with email. Enjoy:
